THOMAS PYM IS CHAMPION!
Thirteen years. That’s how long Thomas Pym had gone without playing a game of chess. And yet, this weekend, he returned to the board and took on Shropshire’s strongest players — before emerging victorious!
Thomas showed class, composure and extraordinary natural talent throughout the tournament. He fought his way into the play-off, taking out Nick and Nat along the way, and then went on to win it, proving that even after 13 years away from the game, his chess ability remains as brilliant as ever. Raw talent like that is something special!
A special mention for runner-up Glyn Pugh, who earned widespread praise from his fellow competitors for the quality of his chess throughout the weekend. Glyn played some outstanding games and was a worthy contender for the title.
A huge thank you to our commentators, Munroe Morrison and Richard Archer, whose commentary brought the games to life and helped make this a truly memorable event.
Shropshire Chess County Individual has now celebrated its 100-year anniversary in style. What a weekend, what a tournament, and what a champion!
