Shropshire welcomes players to enter the first ever Shropshire Rapid & Blitz Championships

Maximum entries:
Entries will be strictly capped at 80 on a first-come first-served basis
Eligibility:
Only players who are members of the Shropshire Chess Association may enter this event

There will be 2 sections.

- U1400
Prizes:
1st: £100
2nd: £50
3rd: £25
The top player in the Championship Section will be awarded the Rapidplay or the Blitz Championship Trophy.
Rate of Play:
Rapidplay – All moves in 15 minutes + 10 seconds increment per move
Blitz – All moves in 3 minutes + 2 seconds increment per move

Rapid & Blitz – £20
All players are required to become an ECF bronze member prior to 30th June 2026. Games played will be pooled with the games played in the league for the purposes of determining game fee. Any ECF game fees incurred by non-registered players will be charged to the respective clubs at the end of the season in the usual way.

There will not be a Prizegiving ceremony; prizes will be paid to winners following the event.
Players may request a half-point bye in any round other than the last two at the time of entry.
Tie-breaks:
For all prizes other than the championship trophy, in the event of 2 players tieing on points the following tiebreak’s will be employed:
1) Direct Encounter
2) Sum of Opponents Score’s
In the event of 2 players tie’ing equal for the championship trophy a 2-game play-off will be held. For the rapidplay championship this play-off will consist of 2 games of 5+3. For the blitz championship the play-off will consist of 2 games of 3+2. In the event of the game still being tied after play-off an armageddon game will be played. The white time control for this armageddon will be 4min (no increment). Players may bid for a lower time to secure the black pieces. In the event of a draw the black player wins.
Default Time:
Clocks will be started on time. Players must arrive before their time expires.
Ratings:
All games will be submitted for rating.
ECF Ratings from the September 2025 ECF rating list will be used. If players do not have an ECF Rapid/Bitz rating then their standardplay rating will be used to allocate them to a section. If players do not have a standardplay rating the arbiter will allocate them to a section.
