The Shropshire Chess Association supports junior chess throughout the county. We both organise junior tournaments and leagues as well as help to establish new clubs through our schools and junior clubs equipment project. Our volunteers run a junior chess club in Shrewsbury.

Shropshire Junior Chess Club
Saturdays 10.00-12.00 – Meole Brace Peace Memorial Hall, SY3 9JP
A junior club for ages 6-13 where players play friendly matches, compete in tournaments as well as receiving coaching from some of the top players in Shropshire.

Newport Junior Chess Club
Tuesdays starting 6.30pm – Royal British Legion, Avenue Road, Newport
Newport Chess Club is for those aged 10 and above. Tuition is provided alongside friendly matches, club tournaments, competitive matches and much more. Newport enter numerous junior teams in the Shropshire Leagues.

Darwinian Knights Chess Club
Tuesdays starting 7.30pm – Salop Unison Club, The Shirehall, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury
Darwinian Knights have a growing junior section with a number of regular juniors who regularly turn up to the club each week. Darwinian Knights enter a junior team in the Shropshire league.

Junior Tournaments
Shropshire Chess Association host 2 junior tournaments each year. At the end of spring we run the regional megafinals, an official qualifier event for the UK Chess Challenge gigafinals. We also host the Shropshire Junior Championships, open to all juniors both inside the county and outside. Find the latest tournament dates here.
