It would be an understatement to say that the Quiet Chess Open Day was a success! If you measure success by just numbers, then yes then the event was very well attended, with some new Members attending, I think the total attendance was over twenty, with quite a few more familiar faces too later on.
The main focus from my perspective was obviously relationships. I had the pleasure of gaining half a dozen new friends last night, which in itself was outstanding and very fulfilling. Understanding from anecdotal accounts the positive change that Quiet Chess can have in some families lives is heart-warming.
Witnessing the growth in confidence in some individuals lives due to their improved Chess abilities and, for some, the confidence gained just by joining the Club is wonderful to witness. Mostly I love meeting the Members and getting a great deal of joy when I play Chess with them.
Lastly the refreshments were great, with cakes, crisps, and other nibbles, together with a ‘never-ending’ supply of tea and coffee. The ‘gold’ medals were a great success too, with 5 gold medals being won by some very talented youngsters!
A big thank you to all who attended and help make this event a great success.
