Chess in Schools and Communities (CSC) is looking to recruit more tutors in Shropshire.
What do CSC tutors do?
The primary offering of CSC is to teach chess within primary schools following a national CSC chess curriculum. Ordinarily this means teaching chess to a class of kids during a 1-hour lesson. Most schools request lessons in the afternoon. No previous teaching experience is required. A teacher from the school will support you in the classroom.
CSC also run lunchtime or after-school chess clubs.

Is the role paid?
CSC tutors are well paid receiving £42 for the first hour.
What support do I receive?
Before entering the classroom you will receive a full training day followed by opportunities to shadow experienced tutors first. CSC will provide a full curriculum for you to follow.
How does it work?
A CSC tutor can choose their own days and hours. The CSC via Shropshire’s Regional Coordinator will receive a request from a school for tuition which will be offered to CSC tutors in Shropshire. As you will be self-employed you do not have to accept.
Do I need to be a strong chess player?
Absolutely not. Many CSC tutors are not active chess players. It is popular with retired teachers for instance.
