The Shropshire Junior Grand Prix is a 6-tournament competition held across the season (January-December). Each competition consists of either an arena or a swiss held online on Lichess.
2025 Eligibility
To be eligible for prizes Junior players must either be:
Born in Shropshire
Resident in Shropshire
At School in Shropshire
Attend a Chess Club in Shropshire
A player is a junior if their age at 1st September 2024 is below 18.
Entry Fee
There is no entry fee.

Prizes for each tournament
1st Place – Gold Medal
2nd Place – Silver Medal
3rd Place – Bronze Medal
Grand Prix Scores
A player’s grand prix score will be the sum of the players 4 highest tournament scores.
Top placement in a swiss tournament will score 50 points. 2nd place will score 40 points, 3rd place will score 30 points etc…. The minimum score is 10 pts.
Top placement in the 12-hour arena will score 50 points, 2nd place will score 40 points, 3rd place will score 30 points etc… The minimum score is 10pts.
In the event of a tie the title will be shared.
The overall winner of the grand prix will receive the Online Shropshire Junior Grand Prix Trophy to be presented at the Shropshire Junior Chess Championships.
