Shropshire & Friends 1 bid to be national champions

From Charles Higgie:

On Tuesday November 19th, Shropshire & Friends 1 took another step towards becoming national online chess champions with a 3-1 win over Dundee City A in the 4NCL (4 Nations Chess League – the four nations being England, Scotland. Ireland and Wales). On board 1 Shropshire’s only Grandmaster Keith Arkell drew with International Master Richard Polaczek with White. On 2 Dan Avery won with black in a long game. On 3 captain Charles Higgie won with white. On 4 Mehmet Altinsoy drew with black. With one round left of the current season, Shropshire & Friends 1 top their group in Division 1. A win or a draw in their last match on December 3 would guarantee them a top two finish and would qualify them for the national semi-finals a week later, and if they win that they would be in the national final on December 17.

Shropshire and Friends currently have 4 teams in the 4NCL online, one in Division 1, two in Division 2 and one on Division 4. The league has 5 Divisions with 90 teams.
