As well as the annual Shropshire Chess League, the Association organises a range of team and individual competitions throughout the year.
Team competitions:
County chess – Shropshire has a long history of competing at county level. We currently have an Open and an Under 120 team in the Midlands County Chess Union competitions.
Shropshire 4NCL – we have multiple teams in both the over the board and online versions of the Four Nations Chess League
Cox Trophy – a knockout tournament for teams in Division 1 of the Shropshire League, held at the end of the regular season
Minor Knockout – a knockout tournament for teams in Divisions 2 and 3, again held at the end of the season
Team Quickplay – a one-day rapidplay event, normally held in the summer
Individual competitions:
Shropshire Congress – an annual weekend congress held in early January
County Individual – an open Swiss over seven rounds, held during the league season
County Minor Individual – a Swiss over seven rounds for players rated 1640 and under, held during the league season
Shrewsbury Town Championships – a five-round Swiss for members of Shrewsbury-based clubs, held in the summer months
Colin Roberts Memorial Trophy – a brilliancy prize for the best game played by a Shropshire player, in any competition, each season
