How to beat an International Master
Many thanks to everyone who took part in the Andrew Martin coaching and simul. The event was very successful with some high quality tuition for county juniors in the morning, followed by a 19-board simul in the afternoon.
Andrew Martin won the simul 17.5-1.5 after more than three hours play. Peter Kitchen from Shrewsbury was the sole winner and Coddon's Andy Tunks got the draw. A great performance by both and other honourable mentions should go to Matthew Best who won an exchange and a few pawns but eventually succumbed to Andrew's desperate mating attack; and eight year old Heath Pearson who battled on for the whole session and was one of the last to finish. - Steve Rooney 12/06/2010

Illegal moves
Due to a recent incident in a First Division match I have been asked to clarify the position regarding illegal moves. Please ensure that all your club players are aware of the FIDE rule 7.4a and b accordingly - Vincent Crean - League Controller

Eventually reaching grade 191, he would go on to become the most successful ever competitor in this event and a major influence on the future of Shropshire Chess
