About Us - The Shropshire Chess Web Site
In January 2003 Vincent Crean and myself (Keith Tabner) met at the Wrekin Congress and began discussions about a collaboration to set up a web site. Vincent was already a skilled webmaster and was keen to build a site for Telepost Chess club. I felt that we could make an important contribution to the whole of Shropshire chess. Although we agreed in principle that it was worthwhile, nothing further was done until club colleague John Casewell took over as League Controller at the August 2003 AGM. We then set about the urgent task of establishing a viable web site initially to support the new League Controller in time for the 2003-04 league season. This is our action plan:-Objectives
To raise the profile of Shropshire chess.
To promote and support the interests of chess within the county.
Past.
To preserve our chess heritage.
To establish archives of chess in the county.
To acknowledge and honour those who have made a significant contribution to Shropshire chess.
Present.
To provide an information, news, entertainment, and communication service for all current chess matters in Shropshire.
To forge stronger links between junior chess, mainstream chess, and the wider community.
Future.
To help, support, encourage, and promote junior chess in the county.
