Minutes of AGM held 7th July 2004

  1. Apologies for absence were given by Alan Shaw, Brian Brown, Alan Silver, David Everington, Gareth Edwards, Jim Wilkinson.
  2. Matters arising none.
  3. Officers reports
    1. CR - verbal report.
    2. JC - verbal report – thanks to Vinnie for help in setting up web card etc. 1st division fixtures for next year on website. Presentation of trophies:- Division 1 Shrewsbury A Francis Best, Division 2 Telepost C Steve Jones, Division 3 Newport B not available.
    3. FB - reported that the game fee had risen by 43p, we have approximately £1000 in hand. Recommended increase to £45 per team. RT reported that the increase in prizes was a result of grading prizes not allowed for & Junior team not allowed for. RT was thanked for his time as Treasurer.
    4. GP - gave a verbal report.
    5. NR – results submitted, new grading list due out end July, grades to go on website. Matchcards – club secretaries to get disclaimer (secretaries to ask members) cut off 31/5 for grades.
    6. NR - 7 round swiss 32 entries. 1st N Ferrington 6, 2nd C Roberts 5.5, N Rutter 5.5, U140 G Link 4, U120 E Raby 3, U100 A Lewis 3, Best game prize C Roberts.
    7. KG – report on web. Better venue, approx. 65 entries half from Shropshire. Ghasi brothers won, small profit, this year’s event end of October date to be announced.
    8. DP - Final to be played Friday between Telepost A & Shrewsbury A.
    9.  TN – continued article in Shropshire Star used snip its from website. Radio Shropshire at the congress.
    10. GS – this was his last year, venue booked for next year.
    11. AS due to have heart op congratulated on job done over the year’s and card sent offering best wishes.
    12. WP – Lost 3 matches, entered minor counties and lost –
    13. JW – minor counties champions best performance Gavyn 6/6, Louis 4/6.
    14. MP – not as successful this year. Got to quarter finals but lost to Essex. 21 players P Broderick got 4/4. M Patterson last season.

4. Election of officers

a. incumbents re-elected.

b. Congress organiser vacant WP, IW & CR to meet to discuss possibilities.

c. U100 - Ian Davies elected if interested.

5. a. NR -  proposal carried rule 10 amended to “in all divisions the time control is all moves to be played in 1 hour 35 minutes”.

6. a. date change to agree with actual financial year. Passed.

b. to change AGM to july amended to “as soon as practical after the end of the league season”. Passed. 

 

7.

a.      KT - One last try to find the whereabouts of trophy. A discussion took place concerning the historical value of our trophies and the need for a register of those holding them.

b.      RB – trophies for winning teams – general discussion about the funding and practicality of the proposal failed 9 – 12.

c.      VC - Shropshirechess.org be set up. Passed.

d.      Derrick Powell reported that Princess Royal may be introducing parking charges which would force Wellington to move.

e.      Clarification of the Cox Trophy rules was requested DP said he would change the rules.

f.        JC reported that the Darwin event would be from the 18th-26th September and was looking for ideas and volunteers. Match between Shrewsbury & Telford and showcasing U125 team.
